The Surrey Three Peaks

The Surrey Three Peaks is a classic point to point route to some of the highest points in the county. Typically completed in a day, the journey takes in the summits of the following hills: Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill and Box Hill. With over 800m of climbing and stretching over 18 miles it is one of the finest routes in the South of England. The Surrey Three Peaks route normally takes between 8 to 11 hours depending on fitness levels and route choice. The hike is an excellent corporate challenge or for friends wanting to do something a little bit different. We offer a fully guided option or have information below for those wanting to organise their own Surrey Three Peaks challenge.

Surrey Three Peaks Route

There are a few ways to do the Surrey Three Peaks route, either as a linear route or as a circular route. The linear route is shorter and allows you to enjoy more of the countryside while taking less time ans is our recommended choice.

Linear Route (18 miles)

The linear route starts in Holmwood and finishes near Box Hill and is conveniently located by a direct train journey (10 minutes). It is a great choice if you are coming by train.

Circular Route (24 miles)

The circular route can take 12 hours and you start and finish in the same location. Walkers will typically park near Box Hill. Be careful not to get locked in at Rykas cafe, which has caught out a few people doing the challenge!

Organising Your Own Surrey Three Peaks Challenge

A linear route of 18 miles is more achievable in a day than doing a circular route which is normally around 24 miles. If coming by car, we recommend leaving your vehicle near the end of the challenge and parking outside Box Hill & Westhumble station before taking the short train journey down to Holmwood station (10 minute journey, one train per hour). If coming by train, you can arrive directly into Holmwood station and depart directly from Box Hill & Westhumble.

We recommend a visit the Surrey Hills Cafe who welcome walkers for a coffee and toilet stop before you start. The pubs en-route are quite friendly for further pit stops but you might be surprised by just how wild the Surrey Hills can be!
